I am an immigrant. I was born and raised in Ukraine. When I was seven I moved to America with my family. It was a struggle to come to America and not knowing the language and starting a whole new life in an unfamiliar setting. At first, it never occurred to me that I was living in a country that did not speak my language or has the same traditions as me, but I soon overcame that realization. I started going to school, and in the span of two years began understanding and speaking English.
In my family, it was always encouraged to get an education. Being in America, the land of opportunities, education became even more important. Both of my parents only could finish eighth grade because of living in a Soviet country. Education in Ukraine was
