Personal Narrative: I Am An Indian American

Growing up as an Indian America has led to countless questions from my peers and even myself. Each person I met led to an immediate Q&A about where I was from and if I followed the stereotypes that associated with being Indian. Most importantly, these questions led me to wonder of who I am as person. Should I consider myself an Indian? I may not be able to speak my native language but I was born there and am fond of the cuisines. Should I consider myself an American? I have lived most of my life in the US but my physical appearance, brown skin and dark hair, surely does not scream ‘typical American teen’. In the end, each time I was asked where I was from led me to doubt myself and my identity.
