Personal Narrative: Joining The Football Team

In 5th grade I was a short, soft, lazy kid who did nothing but pick up a baseball bat for one sports season a year, but the year of 2011 I decided to try something new and play a different, tough sport in which I knew nothing about. A few day’s in I quit and felt the sport was not for me since I was so much more unathletic than the rest of my football team. The smooth summer air was not for me to enjoy by running and hitting people of the same age with the little force I could construct at that age. After weeks into the football season and I not contributing I felt left out and wanted to join the team as soon as I could but knew I needed to wait for a new time period in my life.

Three years go by and I was begining middle school. To fit in I joined the football team and knew that in order to succeed I had to give it my all and not quit in desperate times as I did so long ago. The colorful sunsets and soon cold fall air made me think of my childhood and then my promise to never quit a sport again hit me like a truck. I needed to stick this season out, I needed to man up and be the best. Starting a new sport made me feel weak in certain areas but adapting to adversity was something I overcame in three years.

He was taller, quicker, and stronger than everyone, all though it seemed. He taught me the basics of football and told me that football is not always about technique it's about being aggressive, it's about competing, and it’s about being tough. Both being young I felt he could be wrong and thought that football was more than just being tough so everyday after school we would practice for hours and get better in every way that we could, so that not even a rapid hail storm could stop us when game time
