Personal Narrative: Joining The Lacrosse Team

My Freshman year of high school, I took a big risk joining the lacrosse team. I was very nervous because I had never picked up a lacrosse stick until the first practice. However, I made a goal to start on the JV team by the end of the season. Shortly after I had committed to be on the team, I was diagnosed with a knee disease called patellar tracking syndrome. This made it difficult for me to practice my hardest because I was in a lot of pain. I debated if I should keep playing, but I decided to stick with it and finish the season. I ended up starting on the JV team, and I even played in a varsity game.
Truthfully, playing lacrosse wasn’t some big, life-changing event, but it helped me change my habits for the better, and also my perspective

I quickly enrolled in an art class the next year, and reluctantly, I entered an art contest. I was hoping to win an award because my teacher had encouraged me numerous times to submit this certain piece of art I had been working very hard on. When the contest was over, I found out I didn’t win any awards.
Although I was slightly devastated, looking back on it has made me realize it made me want to work harder and be better. Through my experience on the lacrosse team, I realized that it is often rewarding to do difficult things, and hard work really does pay off. I found you can achieve your goals if you keep working on them, even if there are stumbling blocks along the way. One of the most important things I learned from this experience was how to persevere. I also recognized that when I face obstacles, it is important for me to be diligent, even if something seems impossible.
A couple of months later, I ended up having that same piece of art displayed at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, which was a very big accomplishment. I have been able to take the skills I learned in lacrosse and apply them to the academic and social aspects of my life as well. Since then, I have been working harder in school and have become more diligent in studying. Since lacrosse was a huge time commitment, it taught me to manage my time, which will be very helpful in
