Walking through the doors at GW for the first time were NOT as I expected. I expected to walk through with my friends casual and collectively, excited to be apart of a new school. However, that wasn’t the case. The first time I walked into GW a small tear ran down my cheek as my smile faded as my awkward sixth grade self whimpered, “Fudge, the door just hit me!” to my friend next to me. Little did I know, she wasn’t really next to me anymore. I looked up to find a giraffe of an eighth grader looking down on me. He smelled of smelly socks and old gym clothes, and out of everyone, I just had to be the one stuck to him as middle schoolers pushed and pushed to get through the wooden doors. Middle school was completely contrasting from elementary school. It fed us a lot of independence and responsibility. I remember how confused we all were when we first came to GW. Anxious thoughts filling our minds such as wait, oh my god there’s cameras watching our every move, don’t do anything. Or getting new lockers and trying to remain calm about having to memorize 2 codes. And especially getting lost in a giant school that now seems small to all of us. The most common fear we all most likely had was making new friends. Little did we all know that all these faces around us were to become some of our best friends for a lifetime. As GW’s motto says, dreams are born, leaders are made, kindness is valued, I always wondered how that contributed to my GW experience. Gradually, I came to the realization that many of my peers would become part of my dream of the future. As a matter of fact, we were all part of each other’s dream as well. We are our parents dream of pride and success. We are our teachers dream of accomplishment as students. And we are our friends dream of admirer, support, role model, and companion. All of us together have spent the last 3 years making each other’s dream come true. 3 years ago, all of us 8th graders started our journey at GW. However, I know our journey going forward is no longer a lonely one. Over the years of bonding we all now have each other to lean
