Personal Narrative: Mount Ida School

As children we have a dream. Often times as we grow up, the world tells us our dreams are not realistic and we lose sight of it. I remember being in the first grade and doing a project “about me”. There was a page where we had to draw a picture of what we wanted to be when we grow up. From that day on, I have never wanted to be anything other than a Teacher. Unlike most people my age, I have not lost sight of this dream. However, it has evolved over the years. My life academically has not been easy. In the first grade, I could not read or write like the other kids. I did not understand why I was so different making me feel secluded. My parents began to notice and decided to have me tested. When the results came back, I was below the benchmark in the reading and writing aspects, but above average in most other areas. Based on the results they decided it was in my best interest to repeat the first grade. After this I went to a new school. I continued to struggle through basic reading and writing. I was mixing up words and unable to pronounce basic words I had seen over and over. When I was in the Third grade, my parents decided to have me tested again. One of the most impressive is the student to teacher ratio. Being able to have that one on one attention and getting to know the professor rather than them just being a name and a face you occasionally see around is amazing. It also plays a role in the small class sizes. For me personally it is easier to learn in a controlled environment. I also love the hands on experience that comes along with the education program; being able to take part in a classroom and interact with the kids and an amazing opportunity. Finally, is the atmosphere. The people are incredibly friendly and make you feel at home and campus is not overwhelming. Everything about Mount Ida is so warm and
