My current career is a hospitality based, management role. This position sees me undertaking plenty of formal writing, however, not in an academic setting. My work-related writing is to customers or brand representatives where professionalism is a requirement. Having my writing assessed by www.paperrater.com.au was a great tool to see how my writing stacks up against others in the same level of education in a formal, academic setting. Feedback that I took on board from the online tool is that my writing is too passive. I found the “bad-phrase” score that I received surprising, which put me at a below-average level. Receiving the below-average score followed the lack of creativity in my writing. The suggestion I received was to use a thesaurus
