Personal Narrative: My Day At Rutgers University

I remember the move in day at Rutgers University. My entire family got down and I found myself sitting in the back of the car crying. I just entered into the campus and I was already too intimidated. It was a big school and on the first day everything felt out of place. I knew I have big dreams and I wanted to earn that degree to follow my path to medical school. The second day wasn’t too bad though because everyone I met were extremely nice to me. The next thing I knew, I was at the involvement fair signing up for the clubs. That’s when I heard about AMSA – American Medical Student Association. I wouldn’t have known what it does, where and when the meetings are held if it wasn’t for the emailing system. The emails that I started receiving each week from this club, aroused my interest in this club day by day.

It was a very professional atmosphere and everyone looked very presentable. I got there early because I was also informed that it was first come first sever. Dean Heinrich walking around slowly trying to make small talk with the E-board members. After a while, one of the E-board members introduced Dean Heinrich and asked him to come present. I sat with my group of friends and when I turned around casually to see where my other friend was sitting, I noticed how big of an event it was. There were some people standing in the back and many more chairs were added for the people that joined in right before the presentation started. To be quite honest, it was disappointing to listen to Dean Heinrich talk because it was very hard to understand him. Though, I think he had great information about what it takes to get into med school and how competitive it is. He definitely scared me when he pulled out his stats about how many students get into medical school because it was much lower than what I
