Personal Narrative: My Experience As A Vacation Bible School Leader

I would like to share my experience as a Vacation Bible School leader three years ago. Members of our Church(18+) who were interested had to attend a training camp and the selected ones were assigned to different churches as V.B.S. Leaders. I was assigned to a Church in Kottayam (Kerala). I was to lead a group of 73 students, 14 teachers and a few volunteers for 12 days. my objective was to maintain discipline, to introduce the main theme to the children and the teachers, take one lesson per day, teach them songs along with actions, conduct games etc. Along with this the children were taught by the teachers in their respective classes depending on their age. So we had to get the children prepared for that, so they could show their talents, reflect what they studied over the course of the programme to thier parents and the community. The leader was to assign programmes to each class,select students for skits portraying the main theme and overall ensure that the students prepared well. I was able to spend quality time with kids correcting their mistakes, listening what they had to share and finally reflecting on myself. The VBS was very successful and was fortunate to hear good comments from the children,teachers and parents. It was heartbreaking for me to bid seperation from them. I saw kids shedding tears which induced pain in me. It was a great experience overall. I was able to maintain a good relationship with them. Students call ed me when their exams were near, when their results were out, when they joined new schools and so on. The idea of inspiring or invoking a sense of goodness within a span of 10- 12 days was a great revelation to me and I value it as my most happy
