My experience as a Nigerian woman at UC Berkeley and throughout my life has taught me about myself and especially, how others perceive me. To others, I am just another African-American who got into this University through affirmative action or through a sports scholarship. However, I refuse to accept these stereotypes as my personal truth. If I were complacent to the limitations others placed on me, I would have never had the self-confidence to pursue a higher education at UC Berkeley and defy those “limitations.” I would not have gotten to where I am today without working hard in high school, developing self-confidence, and setting goals.
