Personal Narrative: My Experience With Men's Ice Hockey

I met Mr. Chiasson through one of my former hockey coaches, Mr. Murphy, who is now the Vice President and Portfolio Manager at the same branch. Annually, I play a round of golf with Mr. Murphy to stay in touch, and this past summer, he offered me the opportunity to visit their branch and meet with Mr. Chiasson to discuss a possible future in the business of wealth management, specifically at RBC. While our discussion was rather general, it was very interesting to learn about their branch. More specifically, Mr. Chiasson outlined to me some of the qualities he looks for in potential advisors and what makes some of their employees more successful than others. He also introduced me to Dan Rudisuela, a former professional hockey player, who spoke to me about his transition out of hockey and into the business world, a topic that will likely be relevant to someone like myself in the near future. Overall, the most important lesson I learned from my conversations at RBC is the importance of networking and strong communication skills. As a member of the Men's Ice Hockey team here at Cornell, I am going to be extremely busy training and skating throughout the summer months. Additionally, I am a draft pick of the New York Rangers, and will therefore be spending 5 weeks in New York this summer to participate in their annual development camp and to train and skate with other prospects within the organization. While working may not be possible, I am looking into enrolling into summer courses through Cornell to help me achieve greater academic success throughout the school
