Personal Narrative: My Father's Abuse

My father has always been a drunk. He routinely has a grungy temper, however when he drinks, he becomes really abusive. For seventeen years I have watched him abuse my mother and I could never do anything about it. Until two weeks ago.
First, he screams and that is just so he can generate some fear into my mother. Also the majority of the time, he would pin her to the bed or the couch, get on top of her and choke her. Other days he would slap her. Once, I was so terrified that I called the police. My brother caught me though and reprimanded me. However, I was only seven at the time and unaware of the consequences.
Every time my parents fought, my older brother stepped in to stop it. If he was not there, at that instant, I definitely could not stop it. Confronting my father would be identical to coming face to face with the devil. When it came to being abused, it did not require alcohol. It was just his natural instinct. My father was impelling on about something he was undoubtedly furious about and started discussing it with my mother. He threatened to hit my mother. He was about to turn around and leave, but my mother answered back in view of not letting him have the last word. He was even more furious and walked next to where she was and screamed in her face and suddenly pushed her. He lifted his hand so that he could hit her. My body was pulsing with adrenaline. Before I knew what I was doing, I was among them, screaming at my father. Never in my life had I spoken back to him, let alone scream at him. However I had seen enough of him abuse my mother and I was not going to stand there and watch it happen again. I knew the risks, but I did not care. I screamed at him to back off my mother and that he should not dare touch her. At that point, he threatened to harm me, but he didn’t
