Personal Narrative: My First Day Of Tryouts

“I’m sorry but I have to cut you.” These were the words I saw as I read an email sent to me from the high school basketball coach. My heart immediately sunk to the bottom of my stomach. “ All my hard work was for nothing” I thought. My eyes refused to leave the computer screen. For the next ten minutes I stared at the email hoping it would change, hoping there was some kind of mistake. There was none. I wasn’t going to be on the team this year. As I closed my laptop and laid back in my bed I thought about the events leading up to this moment.
It all started just a week ago, on the first day of tryouts. It was a cool Monday afternoon in mid-November. Tryouts were right after school and it was the sole thing on my mind as I went throughout my day. When it finally came time for the tryouts I was extremely nervous. It was my first time trying out for a team so I didn’t know what to expect. I stepped on the court and was immediately taken back by how tall some of the other kids were. It pushed me to limits I never knew I could reach. That's the one thing that made me fall in love with track. Your Success depended on how much time and effort you put into it. If you try your hardest then you will see improvement. Nothing is given to you; If you want something you have to earn it by working your butt off. My outlook on the whole world changed after I ran track. I realized no one controls my destiny but me. My coach said it best when she stated “ you get out what you put in” on the first day of practice. At first I had no idea what she was talking about but now I had time to reflect on it, and I now understand what she meant. I could have never foreseen the impact track would have on my life, and now I looking back on it, I’m glad I got
