Personal Narrative: My First Golf Tournament

First Golf Tournament The wind was howling, my heart was pounding, and my body was shaking so fast that I could barely move more than an inch. It was Drive, Chip, and putt sub-regional tournament. The beginning of the path to the Masters has started. My first shot of the tournament was about to take place. Once I hit the ball and heard a loud clink, my head shot straight up, and my face was filled with fear. Terrified of what could go wrong, I watched my golf ball start tailing right and head for the out of bounds. After I watched the ball go out of bounds, I thought that making a comeback would be impossible. Thinking that if they don’t give up, I’m not going to give up. Stepping right back up to the tee I hit the ball right down the middle. I knew that I still had a chance.
Next was the chipping section. Knowing I had to have three perfect shots I gained a little bit of confidence. I hit two perfect shots that landed inside the twenty point circle, and one in the fifteen point circle. As excited as I was, I knew I still had work to do. Later we went to the last section which was the putting section. I had one good-looking putt that landed inside the twenty point circle and two not so good putts that landed in the ten point circle.
Curiosity was eating me alive when we were sitting at the table waiting for the rest of the golfers to get done. Finally all the scores were in and I knew I only needed third place to move on. The announcer started with the third place medal. His deep voice said, “In third place from Manchester, Iowa with seventy-eight points, Gavin Soppe!” My face possessed a giant smile. I was shocked that I came back and can move on to the next round. I’ve learned that I should never give up no matter how hard the challenge
