Personal Narrative: My First Week In Hawaii

The sound of the ocean waves, and the sun burning against my skin made me tired. Spending a week in Hawaii was really fun, but I was not looking forward to going home. We came here for my Grandmother’s 80th birthday and I am glad that we were able to come here. My dad said that we were going to go to many places and it would be very fun. As I stood outside with my Grandparents and family, I started to get tired and annoyed. I kept wondering, “When is the bus going to come?” or “Why is the bus taking so long?” Finally, the bus came and we boarded the bus. Our tour guide named, Lani, said we were going to Lu’au. Soon the director came and told us to be quiet. She was wearing a long, silky, and flowery dress just like the rest of us. She told us that we were going to see them do an “imu”, which is a ceremony they do in Hawaii. Right when I got there, smoke filled up my eyes and nose. There were four men there and they told us what they do during an “imu”. In an “imu” you smoke a pig over a fire. They showed us how to do it and I was bored because I did not want to know how people smoke pig. Soon, we were able to eat the delicious food. All the food smelled delicious, but some of the food looked weird. I tried the chicken that was cooked in coconut milk, Kahlua pork, and Mandarin orange with almond salad. While we were eating, flies kept swarming around our food and we shooed them away. It was really annoying because they only came to our table and when flies buzz in your ears, it is not fun.
