Personal Narrative: My First Year Of Softball

In 2010, I was signed up to play for the San Lorenzo Girls Softball League at the age of nine. Never in a million years would have I imagined reaching the playoffs with my team. So far my first year of softball has been unbelieveable, but the challenge is a few miles away.

With five minutes left in the game, many parents from the crowd were biting their nails hoping that they don’t score a run at all. Once the ball traveled swiftly towards the player at bat, “strike” was yelled out by the umpire. At that moment it was finalized that the Lady Giants, my team had entered the finals. My hands are shaking from the wave of the bat rapidly moving back and forth. Halfway to first base, I hear screams and applauses coming from the stands making the field as noisy as concert. I look back at my couch with a smile full of gratitude. At that moment, I executed the impact that changed the entire game around and my life. Putting my visor on, I feel my body trapped in a box with no air from all the hugs I received from my entire team. Heading out to my position on first base, I feel all the love from my team, family and friends entering my body. The first person at bat returns to the dugout with such disappointment as she got out by three strikes. The second girl, sends the ball flying to shortstop and makes it my way to first base. It all comes down to the last girl at bat. I imagine all the pressure that was dragging me down all on her back. She has two strikes and I feel a sudden rain of goosebumps fill up my arm. I watch as the softball is pitched towards her way and the empire calls it a strike with loud deep voice that echoes in my mind for the next few minutes.

Once again, the loud cheers begin again and everyone apart of the Lady Giants ran towards the pitcher’s mound. Celebrating in tears of joy, all of the teams head over to the field for the trophies ceremony. Once we received our trophies and our individual medals from our coaches,
