Personal Narrative: My Grit In The Football Field

Many times, through my short life I have experienced grit. Throughout my high school sports career, I got injured multiple times, many times resulting in missing multiple games to half of the season due to these injuries. In football, I never played in an entire season due to these injuries. During my sophomore season, I injured my hip flexor, and anyone who has injured their hip flexors knows that the only way to heal this is to do absolutely nothing. For the first four games I sat through practices, and watched games from the sidelines, but I never lost interest in getting healthy again. Hard work, and trying to be the hardest worker in the room has always been something I live by. While most of the time this is on the baseball diamond, or on the football field I have constantly been trying to bring this to my studies. Self-control to me is how you handle yourself, and your emotions, in tough situations when you are uncomfortable, or when it is hard to control yourself. My self-control goes hand in hand with my grit. My grit comes from my ability to calm myself in tough situations, when it would be easy to fail, and let my mind wander, and lose interest. This is especially helpful in big situations in sports, whether it is that I am up to bat in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, and the game is tied, or that my teammate is struggling, and needs some encouragement. My family, and my teammates inspire me to be gritty. With them always pushing me to be my best, and always expecting the best out of me, they make it easier to be a gritty person. The grittiness I have obtained comes from the people I surround myself with. They are always pushing me, and making sure that I am focused on the goal ahead, and are always there to steer me back to path if I wonder off
