Personal Narrative: My Hike From Yosemite Island

One of my most memorable days was also one of the hardest. I was set to hike to the top of Half Dome along with my brother. With an elevation gain of 4800 ft, and a 16 mile round trip, I knew this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park. I was nervous but excited to see if I was physically capable of making it to the top. The next morning we began to hike from Yosemite Valley. I started the hike strong but soon learned why this was known to be one of the most strenuous hikes in the park.
I was pushed to my physical limits but mentally I stayed strong. I stayed persistent and determined. I was going to make it to the top no matter what came my way. Slowly but surely we did make it to the top and seeing Yosemite Valley from the peak of Half Dome is surreal. I was left speechless trying to fathom the beauty of mother nature. I felt satisfied knowing that my body was both physically and mentally capable of handling this challenge at the age of 15. I had utilized my determination to help push myself harder than ever before and it was worth it.

My mother calls it being hard-headed and stubborn but I see it as my way to success. I like to finish what I start. I dedicate my time and effort to where it is most needed. Doing this helps me improve as a person and a student. I often challenge myself by taking AP classes in subjects I dislike. I don’t do this as a form of torture but rather as an opportunity to be a better student that I was before. I am determined to be the best student I can be and I know to improve I have to reach out of my comfort zone and allow myself to explore different
