Personal Narrative: My Interview With Fantasy Football

At first it felt strange sitting down with Joseph for an interview. Joseph is my current roommate, so we are used to speaking openly rather than in a structured interview form. Sitting in our living room where we normally discuss school or watch the news, I hoped that the questions I had prepared would encourage thoughtful answers rather than a quick yes or no. After all, Joseph already knew so much about Fantasy Football; what could I possibly ask that would get him excited to teach me about the game? However, I found it hard to keep my eyes on the paper for more than a brief second; Joseph kept demanding that I watch the T.V. as a drunken suspect forked up a miserable excuse as to why he had stolen his mother's car. “What a nut!”said Joseph. His laughter contagiously filled the room as he beat his fist against the table. His flushed red face had turned back to its normal coloration. He leaned in closer, placing his elbows on his knees. Half of his face was illuminated by the muted television, the other half concealed by the dim lit room. I began with a few simple questions. I learned that this was Joseph's third season of Fantasy Football. I also kept in mind that Joseph has been a lifelong fan of traditional American football, and he even played the sport in high school. “ How much do you know about Fantasy Football being that this is your third season?”I asked. “ I know a good bit; It definitely helps that I was not knew to football when I joined my first league.” he responded. Personally, I do not know much about Fantasy Football or even traditional football. Joseph made it clear to me that anyone can play whether they are experienced or not. He informed me that all of the player statistics are laid out for you so that team owners will have a good idea of how they will perform. “ Who do you play in a league with?” I questioned. He told me that he played in a group along with ten other family members. Knowing that I might ask who was leading the league, he grinned, shaking his head as he told me,” This is my little cousins first season playing and she is currently in the lead even though she probably does not even know what a touchdown is.” Lucky for Joseph, they are just competing for entertainment
