Personal Narrative: My Life In Haiti

Being born in Haiti on May 12, 1998, life has never been easy for me. However, my parents always told me to always look on the positive side in life and work hard to attain my goals. This has always pushed me to get to my potential. I remember how in Haiti, I cried for having 80% on my assignments and I spent a bad day. My mom had to talk to me and told me that it is okay to have 80%, it just helps me to find the mistakes and work on them and be better. My mom always called me a smart girl in life and this pushed me to always do better. When I turned 12 years old, an earthquake happened in Haiti, and I was traumatized. I saw a house next to mine crashing down with people in it. I saw a lot of people dead in front of me, and there came a time where I could not even sleep. The bigger the challenge, the higher I will be able to see what I can do, and that will prove how anything is possible as long as I put in the maximum effort. My main goal through all of this is to help the community and to be one of the vital elements in the advancement of biochemical field. Being a survivor of the earthquake that happened in Haiti in 2010, I believe that if I am still alive, it is because I have a purpose to fill. I believe I am a good candidate for this scholarship because I am an assiduous person in general. Besides my interest in academics, I always strive to make time and help the community. Also, coming from a poor country, it has been difficult for me, but this motivated me to work diligently to achieve my objective. I am not rich, but with my knowledge in action in action, I can do so much. I do a lot is volunteer work. I need to see what my community is suffering from, and see how I can help
