Personal Narrative: My Life In Laredo

For half of my life as of now, I was raised in Laredo, TX. Since it was right on the border, there wasn’t much difference compared to Mexico. If anything was different it would only be the tv shows and channels but that’s about it. While living in Laredo, it was only my parents, older brother and sister. After about of 8 years of living there, my younger sister was born. We stayed in Laredo for another year then we moved here to San Antonio, TX.
I was so used to living in a small apartment in Laredo that once we got a house in San Antonio it felt like we came a long way only to find out we had chosen a bad neighborhood. Continuous fights, people being mugged on a daily, and cars being broken into and stolen. It was a long summer for me because I didn’t get to go outside and play due to all the violence in the street, but once you live in that type of environment it isn’t easy avoiding drugs.

As the years passed I realized who I was back in Laredo wasn’t who I am here in San Antonio, so after a few cases, court dates, and probation, I decided to turn my life around for the better. Once I got out of probation I didn’t smoke as much, I started saving up money and I quit skipping class. Many would say the environment one lives in shapes the type of person you are so whether that’s true or not I sure didn’t let it happen. Going through everything I want through I observed a lot and took in a lot of knowledge of how life can be if you let your surroundings shape the type of person that you
