Personal Narrative: My Love Of Football

When one has failed an overwhelming feeling of self-incrimination, disappointment, and despair creeps into their psyche. Holding on to that feeling of self-pity can have a negative effect on one's health, relationships and their future successes. I have felt those feelings before, yet I have been able to overcome that feeling of failure.

Football was my passion as I was always watching it, playing it and following the personal lives of the players. My love of football started when I played little league at the age of 9. Once I entered high school, I played my 9th & 10th grade year for my school. As a Junior Varsity player, I was a starter for both the defense and the offense. On the cover was my favorite pro football player, Adrian Peterson. I begin to flip through a couple pages and had come across his featured article. Peterson, a star running back for the Vikings spoke on his ACL injury and his intensive work and grind to get back to the sport he loved. Peterson stated that the injury would be the toughest thing he had to endure and that he had to work extremely hard to get back into his previous shape. He credited his comeback to having to put in a lot of rehab hours in order to get back to his physical shape, speed and endurance. The quote that stood out was when he said, "You've got to have one believer". I thought about that quote the entire day. My next physical therapy session was different, I begin to work harder in order to reach my full potential. As weeks progressed, I begin to do home exercises and physical training. In addition, I begin to persevere through all my negative thoughts as a failure. My therapist and doctor was very pleased with the progress I had made. Although, I was not able to return to play football during my senior year. I am confident that my senior baseball season will be
