Personal Narrative: My Love Of Soccer

The past 15 years I have devoted much of my life playing the sport I love, soccer. Soccer isn’t just any sport though, it’s a part of me. I had a ball at my feet ever since I first started to walk. I remember going in the backyard with my brother trying to score PK’s against him to win the “World Cup.” I dreamed of being the next Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach. Soccer has meant many things to me. It’s brought passion and a rush that no other sport has offered me. I’ve met friends that will always have my back. But most importantly, it’s taught me many life lessons.
The soccer field became my second home. Fears, doubts, and stresses all disappear when I step on the pitch. Every practice and game all my mind focuses on are the tasks at hand to become a better soccer player. Each practice, I always strive to learn something or excel in a new category, like my first touch or finishing a second chance opportunity.

For instance the state cup championship game in 2016 was a hard fought battle. The first half we were tied at zero’s. Ten minutes into the second half a freak red card was called against one of our best defenders. In a matter of seconds the game was now changed completely. The passion we had was courageous. We only had ten players against eleven, but if you were a bystander the passion in all of our eyes told a different story. Unfortunately, we lost the game 1-0. That game will stick with me forever because it taught me that no matter the obstacles you face in life, you have to push through and always try to come out on top. Sometimes you don’t get the results you want, but you should never stop trying until you get where you want to
