Personal Narrative: My Personal Journeys

Through my entire life I've experienced many obstacles from parents' separation, people being put in jail, brothers and sisters making the wrong choice that lead them down dark paths, losing family members starting at such a young age, I could barely comprehend the idea that death was a bad thing and would wonder why everyone was crying around me at funerals. These obstacles would have led me down a path many people I know have gone because of the stress, depression, and anger that comes from dramatic events like that. My one goal i've had sense I could understand the depths of my feelings was that I would not let myself slip no matter how hard things got and I would do the one thing i've always dreamed of, being a United States Marine. When I was in my adolescent age I only thought that being in the military was cool because you got to shoot people, but as I got older realizing that it wasn't all about the shooting that made it special but the idea of brotherhood and commitment to the country and the people. This goal has brought me to realize that by staying positive through things you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. I accomplished this goal about 9 months or maybe a little bit longer back when I decided to talk to my guidance counselor at school. A few weeks later I had a meeting about what my future would look like, it was something i saw myself doing and wasn't scared to commit to it and do what i needed to.
