Personal Narrative: My Starting English Composition

Starting English Composition 1 I figured it was going to be horrible. An absolutely terrible class that I wasn’t even sure I’d receive an A or a B in. Of course, I had my reasons for this. I have never been that exceptional at writing in the past, nor did I even enjoy writing papers. However, English Comp served to be a surprise to me, changing how I viewed writing, and myself. The beginning essay, the autobiographical narrative, was actually an enjoyable start to the class. It was not an easy essay, but it also was not difficult. The only problem that troubled me was the topic of the essay itself. Seeing as how the event that I wrote about happened almost 6 years ago, it was more than a moderate difficulty to remember what exactly happened. Thankfully, it was not required of me to document everything exactly at certain parts, because as Professor Thoenen had explained, it was not a bother for it to not be a word for word documentation of …show more content…
Lately in the essays, especially the profile, I have definitely seen an improvement in my descriptions. For example, in my profile essay, “No fears,” I described my rabbi as he sat down. “Grant sat down about two feet away from me on the old wooden pew located in the back of his synagogue. His slightly wrinkled face beamed and shone with excitement and wisdom. He closed his brown and gentle, yet squinted eyes, running his calloused fingers through his slowly thinning hair. He opened his eyes and shifted his posture ever so slightly, resting in a more relaxed position in the pew.” As one can see, I have the ability to specifically show details and describe the scene effectively. The only concept I want to work on with that is weaving it throughout the entire essay, not just in certain
