Personal Narrative: My Time In Community College

My time in Community College has been vastly different from what I expected it to be. College can be exhausting at times and exhilarating at others, but it also presents a fun and challenging environment to explore. It can cause you to question yourself, even at your most confident, or give you the conviction you never had before. The experience that I’ve had while attending Camden County College contain a few of the greatest moments of my academic life. College has shaped me in ways I didn’t think were possible two years ago; now I’m confident about my future, rather than being uncertain. Originally coming from a homeschooled environment, I had almost forgotten what public school was like. On the first day of school, I didn’t even think to bring a notebook or a pencil; I was completely underprepared. Everything felt so foreign and it was all entirely out of my element, that was until the class began. The subject was Financial Accounting and it was intimidating from the start, however, the moment the professor began his opening speech I started feeling more comfortable. At first, I never thought I would ever go to University, let alone such a highly-regarded school as Rutgers. To be honest, I didn’t even think I would make it to college, especially considering how expensive it is, however, I believe it is the best decision I ever made for myself. Moving from my home town in Florida to pursue my education here in New Jersey was the first step towards bettering my life, especially when you consider the quality of education.
