Personal Narrative: My Transition To College

As the semester is coming to an end, it feels weird how time has gone by so fast! When I first came to school, I was very nervous and eager as to what to expect. Now almost a semester into college, I have learned more than I could imagine. The first challenge I faced was being sick away from home, without the comfort and TLC of my parents. Right after parents weekend, I started to get a bad cough, headaches, and severe congestion that landed me in the health center twice. I also got a fever and a stomach virus which led me to missing 4 of my classes. It also impacted my studying, and how I did on exams. Getting sick right before an exam is definitely not ideal, and I studied as much as I could. It was a situation that was out of my control, but I wish I could have felt better earlier that way I could have had more time to prepare. I feel very lucky that I found my transition to college easy. I have made great friends, and hopefully will make more second semester when I get involved with formal rush and greek life. I love where I am living. I enjoy my classes and do not like to miss them. They are interesting and engaging. If I could give advice to an incoming freshman, I would say to take AP courses, IB courses, and college transfer courses in high school that you know you will earn credit for. It is also important to do well on the exams required for those courses that way credit can be earned towards general education courses, major requirements, or electives. Early preparation is important in success. If I would have known what classes I would have needed to take, I would have taken different AP courses in high school. The other piece of advice I would give is try to find a health care provider near campus other than the health
