Personal Narrative: My Trip To Colombia

Ever since, I was little my parents always looked for the best education possible for my brother and I. At that time, I did not understand why, because I did not like changing school, I had to leave friends behind and transitions were not easy. The biggest change of school my parents did, was going to Colombia seeking for a higher education and close to extended family. It was important to my parents that we knew where their family came from. Colombia is my mother’s home country and she knew that we could find a good school in Colombia. So we went to learn and experience a different culture, language and traditions. I found a passion for the beauty of the mountains in Colombia where one of the best in the world coffee is grown. I studied in a American school in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, where I learned to appreciate all the opportunities my parent have given me. I am bilingual and I see that as an asset in the walk for the next chapter of my life, this opens doors for me almost anywhere I want to go. In addition, my school emphasized a lot social service, which mostly consisted in interacting with children in the poorest parts of Bogota and surrounding areas. I heard many stories of children, who wanted to study, but their economic situation would not allow them to get near to a technical school, their only hope was to get a good job and even that. Facing that reality, help me to open my eyes to the opportunity I have and I pursue that if I worked hard as I have, I could get a good education which can and most likely will change a person’s life to the best. This scholarship will not only help me to pay my tuition, but will help me alleviate some of the stress of working to support myself so I can concentrate on my studies, I hope to give back to those students who are perseverant and willing to further their education to better their
