My trip to El Salvador lasted three weeks. What was originally a trip to only visit my family quickly turned into a life changing experience. Within those weeks, I was rooted to my family’s culture. I firstandedly saw the conditions my parents grew up in. I saw bare-footed people walking on gravel as their feet scotched under the sun; I learned what it meant to live without proper plumbing and to have to ration your food. I learned what it meant to have so little, but how to make the best of it. The trip opened my eyes to all of the privileges I often neglect to be thankful for.
