Personal Narrative: My Trip To Maryland

I do not want to go on this trip! I yelled this to my mother while on the phone a day before my departure. The fear of a perilous journey got the best of me. My mind was consumed by negative thoughts. Why was I chosen for this trip? Why did I agree to go to Maryland? I was on a plane now headed to a new state with no chance of returning home. What I believed would result in a miserable experience turned out to be life changing. I met new personal connections, learned about how to improve my future, and stepped out of my comfort zone.
The program was called Peer Forward and it was taking place in Maryland. I walked into the University of Maryland not knowing what to expect. My counselor described it as a four day training session where students

The majority sat in a courtyard drenched in sunlight. They were attached to their phones waiting for the Sunday, the day where we would depart, to arrive. There was the occasional whispering, but other than that only bird chirping could be heard. Nobody dared to step forth from the group to start interactions . That was until we met the leaders of the group.I was surprised at the immense energy the leaders displayed. One life changing leader was Mr. O. From the moment we walked to the moment we left, Mr. O displayed radiant positive energy which motivated me to complete the program. Hours later after having an unsatisfying dinner of Domino's Pizza, we began to interact with each other. Several games were introduced which at first made me livid. The superfluous games began to irritate me but the positive energy got the best of me. We played ice breakers which forced us out of our comfort zone. I interacted with students from several states such as Missouri, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
