Personal Narrative: My Work Experiences At Goodrich Community Primary School

The numerous experiences I have working with children prove my passion and enthusiasm for teaching. I firmly believe it is essential to gain a deeper understanding of the ideas, context and strategies behind teaching for becoming an effective role model to children. Therefore, I am applying to a Primary PGCE course.
On completion of work placements at Goodrich Community Primary School and Fairlawn Primary School, I have extended my knowledge of the different cultures in our multicultural society. These two schools were selected: to compare their culture and ethos, observe the schools areas and compare an Ofsted’s report of a good and outstanding school.
The work placement at Goodrich included spending one week observing all age groups, followed by a second week observing a year five class. Coupled with my observations in a year six class at Fairlawn, these work placements aided my understanding of the level of children’s learning before they make the transition into a secondary school.
During my work placements, I observed the workload and administrative tasks that teachers undertake; nevertheless, I am resilient and committed to teaching. Within this setting, I have continued to apply my knowledge of science and maths from GCSE level; to prepare and present lesson plans to a year two class.
