Personal Narrative: My Wrestling Career In College

Continuing my wrestling career in college has been a goal of mine since I was in the fifth grade. When I moved to Texas in the fifth grade I was really nervous about wrestling in a different state. I remember my first practice in Texas like it was yesterday, I walked in to the one hundred degree, steamy wrestling room and the first person I see is Olympic wrestler Jordan Burroughs. He was there to give a speech and show some technique. Jordan talked about one thing that still sticks with me to this day, he talked about how hard it was for a wrestler to compete at a collegiate level. When I heard him say that I took that as a challenge and made it a lifetime goal of mine. I will continue to wrestle on a club team out of school so I can get more practice. Although wrestling is very team driven sport, during your match it is just you and your opponent. This individualism is what makes me rely on myself. Wrestlers are some of the hardest working athletes on the planet, in the wrestling room and in the class room. This work ethic helps me succeed in the classroom and in wrestling. Success in the classroom is an important attribute to have for an athlete that strives to compete on the collegiate level. Getting the chance to compete at that level would be a huge step in athletic career. I would feel very rewarded to compete in college, all of my time and hard work will be paid
