Imagine writing a five page paper the night before it’s due. This describes my life throughout AP Senior English during high school. It would have been more beneficial if I would have received grades that were not satisfactory. That way, I would have learned my lesson and not waited until the last minute for every assignment. This is not what happened; I kept doing well and I, therefore, kept finding myself caught in the viscous cycle that is procrastination. This was not the best process for my general health as I wasn’t sleeping much, but I was experiencing excessive amounts of anxiety. I am now able to thoroughly revise my own papers by re-reading for word choice and punctuation. One of the major themes throughout this class for me has been the need for stronger word choice. For instance, in my historical analysis essay I included the words “along” and “going” instead of “during” and “traveling,” respectively. Therefore, when writing my argument essay I made sure to carefully go through and alter any instances of weak wording such as “a lot” or “make.” The revision checklist given to us in class was incredibly helpful with this …show more content…
For each paper, I would visit the writing center at least one time. Sometimes, I would even visit the writing center on Thursday, make changes, and return on Sunday in the hopes that I would have very few mistakes or corrections. This was reassuring and managed to help establish my writing process because I then possessed a routine that I was able to follow. I even went to Dr. Hebert-Leiter’s office hours multiple times. This was particularly helpful because there I was able to receive a combination of grammar and structure help, and also receive direct aid on how to satisfy the requirements for each
