Throughout the first half of my high school career, I definitely would describe myself as a follower. I went along with whatever my friends did just to try to “fit in”. This all changed as I entered my junior year of high school. One day at field hockey practice, a few senior girls invited some of my friends and I to a party that they were having that night. I knew that there would be alcohol there and I knew it was not a good idea. Most of my friends were excited to be invited to a party with the “cool seniors” and accepted immediately. The decision was hard for me. I knew I would be disappointing my family, my coach and many other important people in my life. More importantly I knew that I would be potentially putting my entire future

Dear English Department at CSUEB,
Coming into college straight from high school wasn’t very easy, and it was a huge step for me
especially because majority of my family members did not attend college and those who did
usually dropped out during their freshman year and I did not want to continue the cycle of
I hold a high standard for myself and have many goals in life I wish to accomplish, being accepted into the National Honor Society is one of them. I believe that I should challenge myself in everything I do. I have learned that the comfort zone is the most dangerous place to reside, and being complacent will never allow me to succeed in any aspects of my life. My willingness to not only persevere but to thrive, is a quality that is meant for the National Honor Society. I feel that I have eminent…
Perseverance: Personal Narrative
What makes somebody a winner? Some would assume it’s a high score on a game, a trophy, or achieving straight A’s throughout their educational journey. In reality its none of those things, in fact those are a few of the many the benefits being a winner comes with. What makes a winner is their perseverance, their will to perform above other’s expectations, the thirst to run that extra mile of exercise, or the determination to write a good paper knowing you’ll only have…
portfolio, I have to say that my best paper/essay so far during my writing experience is my final narrative. My reasoning to this choice is because of the personal experience given in the writing, and what the actual wording represents in my life, that made it so much better for myself to write and it flowed much easier for me. I have always struggled with putting my words into formal writing but the narrative paper gave me a different view of what I thought about my writing assignments.

When I was in about the fourth grade I strive to be just like the other kids in my grade but I didn't feel the same as the other kids in my grade. I use to go to other classrooms rather than be with everyone else. I use to hate leaving the classroom and feeling like I never fit in or wasn't good enough like the other kids.
I would always ask “why can’t I be with everyone else” or “why can’t I stay here?” the teacher would just tell me “we are going to learn in a…

with a personal narrative. I share her sentiment for the importance of storytelling as a developing critical race theorist. She emphasizes her reasoning by stating, “I tell this story both because storytelling is a part of critical race theory and because this particular story underscores an important point within the critical race theoretical paradigm” (1998). Here is my story.
In 1996, I entered my first year of high school at George Washington Carver High School. Very early in the school year we…
years in academia strikes a fear in me that was always reinforced by the judgment of others. I always preferred teaching myself the subjects that interested me the most. All because of some nasty people who were rude and cruel. Here I will Address my past relationships with writing, academia, education and explain why I feel they way I do about them.
From personal narratives to factual reports, have always enjoyed the art of transferring thoughts onto paper. I have written countless papers over…
because she was worried that I would burn myself with the curlers and mess up my makeup. “ You are a big train wreck in curlers and red lipstick!”My mom exclaimed . I still haven’t had breakfast yet and we were running a tad late so we went to quiktrip and got yogurt and a soda. The yogurt tasted like berries and creamy tartness, the soda tasted nice on my rough and swollen throat. Once we checked out we got in the car and started to drive to Winnetonka high school to…

In today’s world there is a great amount of people who are living a life of poverty. Which causes hunger or sickness to many of their lives. These people generally do not have a home, job, or even a family. From my personal life experience I have noticed that it is common for those who grew up with nothing to appreciate everything they have. The writer Johnathan once stated “Regardless…
