Personal Narrative: Okemos Track

The bus screeched to a grinding halt right in front of the Okemos Track. The place was buzzing with the sound of runners, coaches, and parents alike, all who anxiously awaited for the meet to start. I shakily stepped off the bus, my other teammates close behind me. The warm air soothed my nerves as the hot sun beat down on us. This was the most important (and last!) meet of the season- the Honor Roll meet. An opportunity to earn medals and compete among the best of the best. I took a second to just breathe in the moment. The track ominously glittered in the distance, and in that second I knew. I knew I would make this meet count. My team and I walked up to the track, proudly bearing our blue and white. With our muscles loose we circled up and stretched as a team.
“1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10!” We rang out simultaneously.
After various stretches we made our way back to our spot on the bleachers. They were quickly filling with parents as the meet was close to starting. During the wait, I looked over the event schedule. Field events were first, then running events, girls before guys. The race I was looking forward to, the 70 meter dash, was near the end, but I also had the 4x200 meter race before that and the 4x100 meter race after the 70 meter dash. I could talk about the 4x200 meter race, but that's a story of it’s own.
Suddenly, the announcer's voice screeched out of the press box above us, “1st call girls long jump, girls high jump, and girls shot put.” As the events were starting the girls team and I gathered to walk to down to the shot put area and watch our teammate. We did this with most of the other events as well, from long jump to the 800 meter run. The events ticked down quickly until only a couple events were left before
