Personal Narrative-Powerful Experience With Soccer

The sunlight gleaming off the freshly cut grass lent the field below a light shade of green that appeared almost paradisiacal, but what augmented its beauty was the emptiness rather than its mystical appearance. Elated by this rare occurrence, I immediately sprinted down the road to call my friend Dev to play soccer, or football as we called it in India. His alacrity was no surprise to me as the ground was usually full of children attempting to play soccer in miniscule, divided portions of the field. In two minutes, we had arrived - ball in my hand, cleats on our shoes and determination on our faces - and had already made the ground our territory. However, we faced a tough choice. Two of our friends who usually played football with us were on vacation, which left us the options of playing with each other or inviting Ron. Going back to the patronizing nine-year old boy I was, I shall precisely recollect what I thought about Ron. My feelings for him bordered on disdain, which was exemplified by my well thought out metaphor for him of a mosquito: no matter how many times you try to swat it away, it fails to understand the message, and keeps coming back to buzz in your ears and annoy you. An ungrateful person is saddened by the petty problems of life. An ungrateful person fails to acknowledge how much his friends and family love him. An ungrateful person’s happiness, even at a lifelong accomplishment, is so transient that it is vanquished by the emergence of another one. I was an ungrateful person until that moment when I thought I had lost it all. I have noticed many other people with this same problem, and I hope that this story will demonstrate the vices of not appreciating what an individual enjoys in his or her life. The next time I get trapped in an elevator, I will at least be at peace that I appreciated what I had when I had
