Personal Narrative: Rocky, You Can Go Home

Conversations fills the air; the door flies open as the person leaving exchanges places with the one coming in. I welcome every newcomer with a bright and genuine smile. As I stand behind the cash register, I look out at the tables, joyfully witnessing both familiar and new faces. Then a hand taps the back of my Beverly Glen Deli collared shirt, as a voice says, “Rocky, you can go home now”. That one sentence that most everyone looks forward to hearing at the end of the day, causes the smile to fade from my face.
