Personal Narrative: Sex Trafficking

I was eager to get participate in this event, strongly because I have a 13 year old daughter. I have to say that I was disappointed. I do not feel that the panel was given enough time to answer the “tough questions.” I did however leave frustrated and thinking, so my disappointment was not because of them not being knowledgeable, it was simply that I left wanting more. Perhaps, this was the point. The facts are horrifying, but the ones that really got to me were these:

A child in sold every two minutes
 Average age of child 12-13 Life expectancy after lured is roughly 7 years Texas is 2nd in the nation in sex trafficking 1/6 cases of missing children are believed to be lured into sex trafficking Events (such as football games) bring out John’s to buy girls Very few social services for girls who have been rescued from lifestyle lead to almost all return to that lifestyle.

To have an insecure daughter at the prime age is scary. To hear how easily they fall into that lifestyle coupled with their struggles to get out are nightmarish. One thing was made extremely clear; we need more services for these girls. Reactive efforts are not cutting it, we proactive social services targeted at children in high-risk situations to prevent this from continuing. We need social services & rehab to help addicted parents get clean and the therapy needed to make good decisions for themselves and their children, in hopes that it will break the cycle. We need put our money where our mouths are, *the liberals have it
