Strength: the Quality of a Warrior
Strength is not just a physical quality, it is the ability to do things that require a lot of mental effort. My mother is one of the strongest people I know, which is why I consider her to be a woman warrior. Throughout her life she has continuously shown these and many other admirable qualities. Coming from a broken home where she was the victim of abuse, where her own father would beat her after his routinely night of drinking, she showed astounding resilience. Her ability to bounce back and be strong for her brothers and herself were none the less astonishing. Since a young age my mother has had a rough life. Due to her parents being divorced, she was living with her stepfather, brothers and absent mother. There was this one time when she came home, and he aggressively interrogated her by holding her up against the wall asking if she had done drugs. Terrified my mother truthfully answered no, consequently ended up sporting a black eye the next day, which she concealed by a lie that she had fallen. Hearing this story made me look at life differently, my problems did not even compare to hers when she was my age. I had received a new found optimistic look on life, as I know I don’t have the vigor or ability to handle what she did. Her effort to beat this and be strong was at wits end, leading her to a dark place, of teenage alcoholism. Repeating a detrimental pattern, she decided that enough was enough and after graduation moved out to start a better life. A better life that would include her having guardianship of her younger brother at only 18. Without reservation she showed fortitude, tirelessly trying to support
