Survivors

It was a foggy morning in the middle of November. As Lily Mulhare and her friend Megan Loiter both age 25 were headed for a exciting canoeing trip in Mount Weather National Park. It was around 35 degrees with a thin layer of fluffy, pure white snow on the ground. The trees were bare and the sun was stuck behind the clouds. You could hear out of the corner of your ear all the neighborhood kids were laughing outside. Shouting “TAG YOUR IT!” Lily was 25 years old and worked as a dental hygienist in California. She adores kids and loves her husband. They live in a two story house with a yard that was always mowed perfectly and neighborhood kids dashing through their yard. As we crammed through the front door at the same time we noticed Megan in the living room. As I walked in a and gave her gift she gave me a questioning look.
“What's this?” Megan giggled
“A gift!” I exclaimed
As she tore the paper to shreds her eyes widened when she pulled out the gift. It was a gift box with a bottle of wine and a gift certificate for two at the fanciest restaurant. As she thanked me and did all the friend gushy stuff I said sternly “We need to get a move on it, if we want to make it there in time.” So we said our goodbyes and rushed to the car, threw her bags in the trunk, hopped in the car and in the next second we were off, headed to Mount Weather National Park.

The car ride down was mostly just sleeping and driving. When we finally arrived at the park, only after 5 hours, we were so excited. We pulled up to give a nice, young lady our ticket. Then we notice that gate lifting and her saying “Have a great time!” as we drove away. We parked our car and hopped out, taking a big nice stretch. We popped open the trunk and grabbed our backpacks and canoe and dragged the heavy metal object to the river. As we trudged through the sand we noticed nobody was
