Personal Narrative: The Greenest Block In Brooklyn

During today’s exploration around the area I’ve realized that every block is completely different from the rest. Yesterday, I observed how each block coincided with each other and how everyone was most likely willing to help out if a situation presented itself; But today I realized that the entire area is not a full blown close-knit community. For instance, if you walk two blocks down odds are they don't know who you're talking about and most likely don’t share similar view points on the neighborhood. Everyone has a different perspective on the changes the community has had over the past years. That entirely depends on their way of perceiving things and the block they live on. I’ve had a couple one on one personal interviews with people and you wouldn't believe how different their responses are on education, the community policing, and also if they believe crime has actually changed or not. Yesterday, we spoke to a women who loved her block, it’s officially named the “Greenest Block in Brooklyn” all she did was speak wonders of the improvements and her neighbors. She fully supported the police but didn’t totally agree with the idea of them asking for ID. On that specific block they solely depended on the police to handle any situation. It all depends on the block you live on. Gentrification is a change that everyone seems to mention. A couple more things I did notice just by observing the area where these two teens who were trying to clean up some shoes really beat up shoes and try fix them, “Black lives Matter” was written on every few blocks, the parks trashcans were filled to the top with mostly beer cans or arizona bottles, the parks were mostly empty these past two days surprisingly in the summer and not everyone is open about the things that actually happen around their neighborhood.
