Personal Narrative: The Jewish Museum Internship

it was the spring of my Freshman year when the opportunity came up to apply for the prestigious Jewish Museum internship. After filling out an extensive application, only to find out that I had missed the deadline by an hour. Frantically, I rushed to email the program director, who kindly accepted my application. Nervous at the frantic pace at which I answered the questions, now I played the waiting game.

Two weeks later, I received an email invitation for an interview at the Museum. A mere 14 years old when, going on an interview, this was a daunting task to me. The interview was scheduled for the following week. Many questions went through my mind, What to wear?, What to say?, How to sit?, How to greet? I had to get ready. Nevertheless, finally arrived, greeted by a grandeur Fifth Ave mansion across the street from Central Park. After adjusting my tie a hundred times, I was warmly greeted by the program director Jamie. A truly beautiful building, with quotes adorning the walls and historically detailed ceilings among other unique features. Sitting down for the interview, all I had in mind was not to mess up, not to fail, not to say the wrong word. I would repeat over to myself, the advice I researched online, “Sit up straight, don't look in the eye, answer promptly”. With a panicking face I started explaining my interest in the program, looking like a nervous groom on his wedding day. The program director, realizing my struggle, stopped and told me to “be yourself, take a deep breath and just give me your best”. At the moment the air cleared up, my head spun in place and I felt revived. The rest of the interview went as smooth as butter, the program director was so intrigued by what I had to say that she introduced me to the museum
