Personal Narrative: The Lineman Year Of High School

Imagine a boy 5 feet 3 inches tall, 130 pounds, with a black sling across his left arm towing a rolling backpack in his right hand. This boy was me during my freshman year. It was the first week of school and I already had a broken arm, courtesy of a 200lb varsity lineman at football practice. This unfortunate accident acted as a catalyst for my desire to join other extracurricular activities in place of football. These choices led to my lack of academic focus during my first year of high school. My performance during this year set me back academically and created some hurdles for me. As a result, I learned to work through obstacles and even excel because of them.
