“I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive. I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise. To fly” (Nicki Minaj). From the Maximum Ride series, Maximum Ride aka Max, is not the typical female teenager who lived in house with warm meals every day. Max was born a hybrid with wings in a science lab. Max stands at approximately five feet and eight inches, with brown and blonde streaks. For years, the Whitecoats, scientists, experimented on Max in hopes of turning her into a weapon. She becomes friends with a few children who suffered the same fate she has. The children she befriends are between ages 6 and 14 and they became the Flock. After several years, the Flock managed to escape, only to spend the rest of the lives running from the people …show more content…
Max is the only one who was created through science while the other children were kidnapped or bought. As a result, she grew 13-foot wings, heightened senses, superhuman strength, and able to travel up to 3000 miles per hour (mph). The only freedom given to her was interacting with those children who suffered similar fates. With the help of Jeb Batchelder, a Whitecoat, the Flock escaped. But wolf-like humanoids called Erasers started their hunt for the Flock. Batchelder tells Max was created to become a weapon for an organization called the Itexicon, which owns almost half the world’s businesses and companies. Itexicon planned on eradicating all imperfect beings (humans) to make way for a perfect world for hybrids and the evolved species; Max was created to lead the destruction. While Batchelder convinces her that he created her to save the world, I am still wondering what my purpose is, if there is one. Unlike Max, I was born in a hospital, hopefully, in Lanham, Maryland and I had actual parents that raised me. The closest torture I have ever encountered was being forced to take naps and I did not obtain any super powers from the rest. As a child, I always had a fascination to fly high above the clouds. Being able to fly in the open sky would be like a dream come true. I have always viewed flying to be associated with being free but it took Max longer to realize it. In the …show more content…
In the first book of the series, The Angel Experiment, Angel, a six year old girl, youngest member of the Flock, was kidnapped by the Erasers. Max, filled with worry and rage, leads the Flock in chasing the black SUV. Without a proper plan, Angel was taken away and the Flock hovered in shock. Max beats a tree in frustration and relishes the pain. The next morning, Max and two others take off after Angel towards Death Valley, California. Although she formed some vague plans, not everything went according to her expectations. Trying to follow her personal beliefs, she helped a young girl in trouble and Max ends up getting shot. Max placed her beliefs over Angel’s rescue for a mere moment and it resulted in her separation with the other members. When I face a problem, I do not tackle it head on but rather think about it more in depth. I play out different scenarios that could possibly occur as well as its consequences. A female friend of mine asked for my opinion on what she should do in dealing with a boy, who she liked, that was ignorant and indecisive. I will refer to the girl as Sahara, the boy as Bob, and the boy’s girlfriend as Gloria. I carefully thought of what Sahara could do. She could have a conversation with Bob about their miscommunication and this would help reveal the clarity of their problems. A
