I think that people flock to see sacred objects, artifacts and places with their own eyes and that way it will be more believable especially such things as statues crying or the Shroud of Turin is believed to be the burial cloth of Jesus, revealing the face of Christ as it was impressed in a strip of linen. It makes it more real to us that we actually saw it. I feel the same way about the Holy Land, being where Jesus actually was would be an experience and make everything come to life to be able to see things that he did (or close to it).
I think that you would somehow feel that by being near these objects somehow you would absorb some of its iconic power and spirit. Tens of thousands flock to Turin, Italy, every year to get a glimpse of
