Personal Narrative: The Sport Of Volleyball

Many people might think that volleyball was my ‘natural’ sport because that’s what I’m going to MacMurray for; however, volleyball was a struggle for me. After getting cut my 6th and 7th grade year, I had come to conclusion that volleyball wasn’t my sport. Two gentlemen, Sabryn Boike and Alesa Wilson’s dads organized a Sportsplex volleyball team for the people that didn’t make the school team. These two men worked with me and never gave up on me because they saw something that nobody else had seen: an athlete. After the end of the Sportsplex team’s season, it was time for the official test: 8th grade tryouts. After a long sweaty tryout, it was time for the results. I had made the team. My freshman year was a lot different than 8th grade year; however, it was still the game of volleyball. We were still bumping, setting, and spiking, but it was a lot more challenging. We had to get to know everyone. We had to all bond somehow and it wasn’t as easy as you would think. As freshman, we were very timid and shy, or at least I was. Therefore, we didn’t communicate and we didn’t win because communication in volleyball wins volleyball games. Although there are several other strategies that will win games, communication was on the top of the list. After a few games, we were all starting to bond because we were talking with each other. After those few games, it was a rollercoaster that only went
