Cheryl stays the night at the man’s house for the night, and in the morning he took her to her to the local gas station where she needs to hitchhike again. She got a ride to an outdoor store where she got her stove fixed. She decided to stay the night in that town. She had been told by the motel owner, where she stayed that there had been a lot of snow in the Sierra area. She then reenters the trail and feels accomplished and so lucky to be alive. The next day she realized the temperature was rising, she got frustrated and contemplated giving up and getting a ride back home.
