Personal Narrative: Volleybal Volleyball

With tired looking knee-pads and bruised legs, I sprint halfway across the court to get a ball that is now falling from its highest point in the air. It's still three feet away from me and I know that if I don't get down and dirty on the floor, I won't get to the ball in time to save it. Trying not to slam my knees too hard into the ground, I fall and lift one arm. I get the ball just before it hits the ground and fall hard. My jersey is the only protection to save my side from the pain that I know is coming, but I don't care about the pain. I ignore it because not letting the ball touch the ground is more important. I run back to my position because I have no time to catch my breath. I wait for the ball to come back over the net to most likely do it all over again. Being a libero, this is my only job. Everything that gets passed back over the net is my responsibility. It's the biggest responsibility on the court because if I don't get the ball up, the rest of my team can't fulfill their responsibilities. So it is up to me to make or break the play. It is my way to calm down after a hard day at school. It's mine to escape the stress of life, the stress of school, the stress of family. It's mine, to take out my aggression on the world, to be loud. I forget all my problems and focus on nothing but the game. Like any other sport, volleyball can be very stressful. As tournaments and games approach, we work to get all the practice in that we can. But this is a good kind of stress. The kind of stress I am happy to have. The kind of stress that pushes me to work harder in order to get good at what I love. It's all about will power and the absolute desire to get
