Personal Narrative: What I Learned In College

When my sister first told me she’d signed me up for my first year of college I’d thought she was joking. I had been saying that I wanted to go but just the thought of it stressed me out so I never did anything. This first semester has been one of the most stressful things I’ve ever done, school in general is the most stressful thing for me. Although I knew college would be stressful, I also thought it would be extremely intimidating. My biggest fear coming into college was that I wouldn’t remember the things I learned in High School, because it had been almost three years since I had been in school. Two of my biggest struggles are Time Management and knowing how to study. I can’t believe I actually made it through school without knowing how to study, I honestly don’t know how I did it. I used to just make flash cards and repeat them over and over in my head or I’d try to go over homework or make up my own questions. At least I got one of those methods right. When we went over the different learning methods it helped me to understand that I’m not weird for walking around while studying, it was actually part of how I learned. Doing the time management section definitely helped me too, filling out that weekly planner page was so helpful. I am the worst with time management, which is why whenever I have a paper that’s due I can almost guarantee that I won’t be getting in the bed any time before two. Overall, this semester has gone pretty good. I haven’t failed any classes (although I’m not very happy with some of my grades) and I haven’t had any serious mental breakdowns. Now I’m just hoping and praying that I make it through the next however many years to
