Personal Narrative-Wide Balance Beam

As I stood on the four-inch wide balance beam, I prepared to perfect a skill I have tried relentlessly to master. As I bent backwards and kicked my legs through the air as hard as I could, something did not feel right. Just as I was about to put my feet on the beam, I felt a pinch in my back. I tried to do the skill a couple more times, and the pain in my back gradually increased. I figured “today is just not my day on beam”, and went to the uneven bars, one of my favorite events. As I chalked up and prepared myself for my routine, I constantly messaged my back to try and relieve the pain. As I jumped to start my routine, I cried out in pain. Each day, my back was progressively getting worse. I stopped mid-practice to tell my mom about the extreme and uncomfortable pain in my back. After weeks of watching me endure the gradual pain and useless chiropractor sessions, she realized I needed to see a doctor. After going inside the examination room, my doctor quickly realized how much pain I was in. He had me do different tasks to see how much mobility I had in my back. When he accidentally dropped his pen, I went to bend down and pick it up for him; however, I could not move because of the excruciating pain I was in.
